Persons of interest in homicide involved in hit-and-run shortly after downtown shooting, MPD says

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police say the persons of interest taken into custody following a Wednesday evening homicide in downtown Madison were involved in a hit-and-run shortly after the shooting.

According to an incident report, the crash happened near South Park Street around 5:10 p.m., shortly after police responded to a shooting outside of the Dane County Jail.

Police said a man was driving in the area when his vehicle was struck. No injuries were reported and damage to the victim’s vehicle was minor.

Law enforcement have not identified the persons of interest but did say they were taken into custody Wednesday evening so police could learn more about the fatal shooting. The individuals had not been arrested or named as suspects as of 12:30 p.m.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes plans to hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to share more information about the city’s first homicide of the year.
