PD: Man helps himself to McDonald’s till in 2nd robbery for drug money

MADISON, Wis. — A man charged with robbing an east Madison McDonald’s last month returned more than three weeks later and robbed it again, police said.

Madison police said 29-year-old Anthony D. Hinrichs robbed the McDonald’s on Dryden Drive Saturday. He’s charged with robbing the same restaurant on Feb. 15 after putting in an order for cookies.

Police said Hinrichs turned himself in to police after the first robbery in February. According to the report, the robber had stepped behind the McDonald’s counter where employees stand and told a worker to open the register, plus he passed her a note indicating it was a robbery. He left with cash from the till.

Police said in the second robbery on Saturday night, Hinrichs walked behind the counter and took money from the till. A McDonald’s employee told officials that the man looked familiar and realized it was the same man who robbed the restaurant in February.

Police said they went to Hinrichs’ apartment, where Hinrichs eventually confessed to the Saturday robbery. Police said he told officers he spent the money on drugs.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft and felony bail jumping.

He was charged with robbery with threat of force in connection with the robbery on Feb. 15. Police said Hinrichs also told police he spent the money stolen in the earlier robbery on drugs.
