PD: Cop impersonator spotted in police-style uniform driving Ford Crown Vic

A man in Clinton impersonated a cop Tuesday, including pulling a driver over, police said.

The Clinton Police Department said it received a report from a driver who said he was on County Road X passing by the industrial park in the village when an unmarked dark blue Ford Crown Victoria drove up behind him.

The driver told police the man who got out of the car was white, short, unshaven and muscular. The man was wearing a navy blue baseball-style cap and a blue police-style uniform. It also appeared he had a firearm in a holster on his left side. He said the man from the Crown Victoria led him to believe he was a police officer and that he was stopping him for driving under the speed limit.

Police said the man was impersonating a police officer and is not part of the department.

Anyone who sees the car, or if the car attempts to stop you, police said to notify the 911 center immediately. Do not stop for the vehicle until an officer in a marked police car is at the scene.

Police also told residents not to attempt contact with the vehicle or the man driving, as he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Clinton Police Department said it shared the information with law enforcement throughout Rock County and are working to locate the fake cop.
