Overtime to catch Jakubowski cost Rock County Sheriff’s Office $80,000, Beloit PD $6,000

JANESVILLE, Wis. — A 10-day, nationwide manhunt for a Janesville man accused of stealing guns from a Rock County gun store before setting his car on fire and fleeing cost the Rock County Sheriff’s Office $80,000, officials said Friday.
The amount of overtime money the sheriff’s office spent to catch Joseph Jakubowski is about one-third of the department’s overtime budget for the entire year, Rock County Sheriff’s Office Commander Troy Knutson said.
Knutson said it’s one of the largest expenses for the department from similar, large-scale incidents.
Overtime costs for Janesville police totaled $43,750.
Beloit Police Chief David Zibolski told News 3 that his department spent an additional $6,000 to cover overtime costs to operate the emergency operations center as well as provide tactical support.
