Oscar Mayer to close later than expected
Parts of plant could remain open until May

MADISON, Wis. — The Oscar Mayer plant in Madison might close a month later than expected, according to a union official.
The plant was supposed to close at the end of March. Doug Leikness of the UFCW told News 3 on Tuesday the plant will not close until at least the end of April and the spice department might not close until early May.
Leikness said details of the extension are still being worked out.
Oscar Mayer has been on Madison’s northeast side for nearly 100 years.
The Madison Oscar Mayer facility employed 1,000 people, including 700 workers in the factory.
