Oregon man dies in Devil’s Lake

A man died Sunday afternoon while scuba diving in Devil’s Lake, according to the Sauk County coroner.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said Mark R. Gant, 53, of Oregon, was reported missing after he failed to contact family members. Officers responded to the lake when his diver’s flag was spotted.

Coroner Greg Hahn told News 3 that it’s not clear if the man drowned, if there was a problem with his equipment or if he died from natural causes.

Hahn said an autopsy was completed Monday afternoon.

The DNR is leading the investigation. A call to a DNR spokesperson has not yet been returned.
