One man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries in drive-by shooting near Beloit
TURTLE TOWNSHIP, Wis. — One man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Friday during a drive-by shooting.
Authorities with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the 1800 block of Milwaukee Road near the bridge over the Turtle Creek flood plain for a report of shots fired shortly after 9:30 a.m.
According to an initial investigation, two vehicles were traveling westbound on Milwaukee Road when a dark colored sedan, which police believe was occupied by two men, pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle. The men then fired multiple rounds into the victim’s car before continuing westbound on Milwaukee Road into Beloit.
The victim, a 31-year-old man from Beloit, turned around and came to a stop a Leeson Park Road where he dialed 911 to report he had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials recovered multiple shell casings from a handgun at the scene. Law enforcement said they also recovered marijuana in the weeds following a K-9 track near Leeson Park Road.
Rock County Sheriff’s Office officials said they believe the shooting was targeted.
Milwaukee Road was closed for more than three hours while investigators worked the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
