Officials: Medicare scammers calling area residents; calls appear on caller ID as being from Reedsburg Area Medical Center

REEDSBURG, Wis. — Officials in Sauk County are warning residents of a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be from Medicare and appear to be calling from the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.
In an alert sent to residents Wednesday, officials from the health care facility said the scammers’ calls are displaying on caller ID as coming from the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. The scammers are not calling on RAMC’s behalf.
Multiple people in the community have gotten the calls, according to the alert, but an exact number was not provided.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, Medicare does not call or text people to ask for money.
