Officials: Local Unemployment Rates Increase In February

Unemployment rates increase in most major Wisconsin cities and counties in February, according to state officials.

The state Department of Workforce Development reported Wednesday that unemployment increased in February from January in 27 cities with at least 25,000 people and in 66 counties.

However, compared to a year ago unemployment rates were improved in 68 counties and 31 cities. Caledonia had the lowest unemployment rate of any Wisconsin city last month at 3.7 percent, while Beloit was the highest at 12.5 percent.

Dane County had the lowest rate at 5.2 percent while Door County had the highest at 13.8 percent.

Wisconsin’s statewide unemployment rate in February was 6.9 percent.
