Officials ID skier who died after hitting tree at Cascade Mountain

An Oconto Falls woman died after she hit a tree while skiing at Cascade Mountain Saturday morning, deputies said.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s office was called to the ski hill at 10:29 a.m. for a person needing medical assistance.

Bethany L. Rieth, 24, was taken to Divine Savior Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Officials said Rieth was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, but say they believe it is accidental.

Divine Savior EMS, Ski Patrol from Cascade Mountain and the Columbia County medical examiner’s officer also responded to the scene.
