Oakland A’s draft Columbus High School pitcher Christian Oppor in 11th round

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin baseball has been well-represented in this year’s MLB Draft, with local players continuing to get picked on the third day of the draft.
Along with Milton’s Gavin Kilen, who was selected in the 13th round by the Boston Red Sox, Columbus High School pitcher Christian Oppor also had his name called, getting selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round, pick 334 overall.
Oppor was the first Wisconsin high school player selected in this year’s draft and has committed to junior college Gulf Coast State College in Florida. Scouts have clocked the left-handed Oppor’s fastball as high as 96 mph.
Madison West alum Drake Baldwin and Middleton alum Alan Roden were picked by the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays, respectively, in the third round of the draft on Monday.
