No Injuries In Afternoon Apartment Fire

Occupants of a two-story apartment building were evacuated safely following a fire in a second-floor apartment Saturday afternoon.

Madison firefighters were called to 2905 Commercial Avenue at about noon. When crews arrived, they said they saw smoke coming from the second floor of the building. When they got inside, they said they saw black smoke, but no flames.

The crew used a thermal imaging camera to guide them to the area where fire was still burning, near the center of the apartment.

Once the fire was located, crews were able to quickly extinguish it, fire officials said. They said the fire damage was contained to the apartment. The three adjoining units suffered only light smoke damage.

The property owner is providing all residents with lodging through the weekend.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damages are estimated at $75,000. There were no injuries reported.
