No Fire Fatalities In Madison in 2011

The city of Madison avoided any fire fatalities in 2011, but fire officials remain vigilant in order to keep people safe in the future.

It’s the third time in four years the city has avoided any fire-related deaths. The Fire Department will continue to focus on preventing fires caused by careless and negligent cooking in 2012. This remains the No. 1 cause of fires nationwide, as well as in the city of Madison.

The only fire fatality in the past four years happened back in August of 2010, when a fire caused by careless cooking claimed the life of a woman in a condominium fire on the city’s north side.

The first major fire of the year in Madison was also due to a kitchen fire. It began when a resident at was cooking french fries in oil and left the kitchen area for a while. When he returned, he saw fire on the stove.
