New poll: Baldwin tied or ahead of all GOP candidates

Republican primary for Senate seat is Tuesday

NEW YORK — The latest Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times swing state poll has some good news for Democrat Tammy Baldwin, and some sobering news for her Republican challenger for the U.S. Senate.

The poll shows Baldwin beating three of her possible Republican challengers, and tying a fourth candidate.

The poll has Rep. Baldwin tied with former Gov. Tommy Thompson at 47 percent each. The poll shows Baldwin ahead of businessman Eric Hovde 47 percent to 43 percent, ahead of former congressman Mark Neumann 48 percent to 45 percent, and ahead of state Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald 51 percent to 39 percent.

The Republicans will hold a primary next Tuesday to determine who will face Baldwin in the general election. The winner will replace Sen. Herb Kohl, who is retiring.

The margin of error in this poll is plus or minus three percentage points.
