New Berlin standoff suspect found dead in home
NEW BERLIN, Wis. — A man who refused to come out of his home during a police standoff in Waukesha County Friday night was found dead when tactical officers forced their way into the home, police said.
New Berlin police said in a post to their department Facebook page that officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Oakwood Terrace at 8:52 p.m. on a report of shots fired. A man fired additional shots at the officers when they arrived, police said. The man retreated into his home when police returned fire.
The man refused to come out of the home for several hours, police said.
After a several hour-long standoff, tactical officers from Waukesha and Milwaukee counties forced their way into the home where they found the man dead, police said.
Residents in the area were told to shelter in place while police negotiated with the man, police said.
