MADISON/MESA, AZ – Neil J. Schlicht, age 86, passed away Sunday January 24, 2016 at Phoenix Banner Trauma Center in Arizona from injuries sustained in a fall at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona.

Neil was born on June 8, 1929 to Ralph and Wilhelmina. He suffered the tragic loss of his father at the young age of 8. He graduated from Madison East High School in 1947 where he lettered in both football and basketball. He served in the US Army at Fort Knox. Neil married his high-school sweetheart, Rosemary (Schmidt) on September 16, 1950. He worked for 42 years at Oscar Mayer in Madison and retired in 1989 when he and Rose became snow-birds. Neil enjoyed traveling, camping, cards, and gatherings of family and friends. He always said “I lived the best of times.”

Neil is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosemary, son Craig (Faye Wright) McFarland, daughter Sue (Joe) Mulhern, Lodi. Sister Jean Kiel, Dallas, brother Leo (Doris) of Arcadia California. In-laws Robert & Coletta Niemann, and Marion Schmidt . Grandchildren John Schlicht, Mt Horeb, Andrew Mulhern (Sara Feist) of Madison, Amy (Nick) Dorn, Milwaukee and great-grandchildren Sydney, Gage & Aubrey Schlicht and Aidan and Liam Mulhern and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, step-father LeRoy Cholseth, brother Dean (and wife Mary), brother-in-laws David Schmidt and William Kiel and grandson Ryan Schlicht.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Avenue, Madison, with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM until time of the Mass on Saturday at the church.
