N. Butler St. homicide: PD seeks owner, info on recovered Trek bike

MADISON, Wis. — Investigators are looking for help in identifying the owner of a bicycle connected to the homicide of a downtown Madison man.

Madison police shared a photo Wednesday afternoon of a blue Trek bike that was likely stolen on Monday or Tuesday. Police said officers recovered the bike, and detectives are looking to talk to the owner. Police said officers are looking for information about where and when the theft took place.

A person of interest has been arrested on unrelated charges as part of an investigation to a Madison homicide.

A man who was found dead Monday in Madison apartment has been identified as 46-year-old Andrew G. Nesbitt.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office said a preliminary autopsy indicates that the cause of Nesbitt’s death was “homicidal sharp force injuries.” Additional testing is underway.

Police said a man considered a person of interest in the case was arrested Tuesday on charges unrelated to the homicide. He’s currently at the Dane County Jail.

Police said there was no forced entry to the victim’s apartment.

Dane County dispatchers said they got an emergency call just before 4 p.m. Monday from 27 N. Butler St.

The victim’s roommate was out of town for the weekend and returned Monday night to find Nesbitt dead in the 24-unit apartment complex in downtown Madison, police said.

Police said it’s not clear when Nesbitt died.
