PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. — A Mukwonago man was taken to the hospital Sunday after he was shot while hunting.

Grant County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Wyalusing State Park just after 2:30 p.m. A 49-year-old man and his wife were duck hunting in the backwaters of the Mississippi River.

As the man was getting back into their boat, his gun discharged, hitting him in the arm and leg. Using a private boat from a member of the Cuba City Fire Department, first responders were able to reach the man and bring him to a boat landing, where he was taken by Med-Flight to a local hospital.

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident, but officials said it does not appear to be suspicious.
