MADISON, Wis. — A woman who was shot on Madison’s east side early Sunday morning has died, officials said.

Police were sent to the 1700 block of Onsgard Road for a report of gunshots at around 1:30 a.m. Officials arrived and found the 31-year-old victim with a gunshot wound. The woman was taken to a hospital in serious condition, though an updated incident report from Monday said she has since died.

Officials believe the victim and suspect knew each other and that the shooting was not random. Authorities working with the Madison Police Department have taken a person of interest into custody in another state, according to the report.

The investigation into the homicide remains open and active. Those with information on the incident are encouraged to call MPD at 608-255-2345.
