MPD: Witnesses say man beaten up in racially motivated argument

MADISON, Wis. — An intoxicated man was beaten early Sunday morning in what witnesses described to police as a racially motivated argument, Madison police said.
A witness told police a racially motivated argument around 1:45 a.m. in the 200 block of West Gorham Street left an intoxicated 29-year-old Madison man unconscious, according to a release.
The witness heard the victim repeatedly calling several young African-American men a “gangsta,” officials said.
The witness said one of the young men said he was going to hit the 29-year-old man, which he then did, knocking the man out with one punch, according to the release.
The 29-year-old could not remember what happened when he woke up, and was taken to a detox center, officials said.
