MPD: One person shot near Worthington Park in attempted homicide

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are calling a shooting Wednesday night on the city’s east side an attempted homicide.

Officers were called at 11:30 p.m. to the Rethke Avenue near Worthington Park and found a 36-year-old woman with multiple gun shot wounds.

Detectives said the woman was walking in the 200 block of Rethke Avenue when someone approached her and shot her.

Witnesses told police several shots were fired and someone yelled “I’m shot.” Neighbors came to her aid.

The woman was taken to UW Hospital and is listed in critical condition. She’s expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
