MPD: Man arrested for 7th offense OWI after walking away from crash scene

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police arrested a man Sunday evening after he allegedly walked away from a crash near Monona Bay. Authorities allege he was driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Officers first responded to the intersection of West Washington Avenue and South Park Street around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a three-vehicle crash.
When police got to the scene, witnesses told them that a man who was involved in the crash walked away from the scene. A passenger who was in another vehicle involved in the crash reportedly followed the man to the 700 block of Braxton Place where police contacted him.
The man ultimately denied being part of the crash, but keys found in his pocket belonged to one of the vehicles involved. Police arrested the man on a tentative charge of 7th offense OWI and cited him for hit-and-run and not having a valid driver’s license.
No one was injured in the crash, but two of the vehicles needed to be towed away.
