MPD: Houses hit by gunfire, girl’s room hit
Shooting in the 1300 block of Prairie Road

Several houses were hit by gunfire Thursday night, including the bedroom of a 13-year-old girl, but no one was injured, according to Madison police.

Police responded to the 1300 block of Prairie Road around 6:05 p.m. on a report of multiple gunshots, according to a release. Dispatchers told police that numerous callers reported hearing gunfire in the street.

The girl was in her bedroom at the time of the shooting. She was not injured.

When police arrived, they found evidence of shots having been fired, including gunshot rounds that hit several people’s homes, authorities said. A police K-9 was not able to track any suspects.

The gunfire also struck a big-screen TV and a storm door, causing damage to a kitchen in another home. A 14-year-old girl was inside that home at the time of the shooting. She said she heard glass breaking, but she was not injured.

Police said parents hustled their children inside, and one woman said she hit the floor, fearing that she would be shot.

Officers said they contacted four men, all of whom said they believed they were the targets of the shooting. They said they were outside when a car rolled up, and at least one shooter got out. The four men ran and were not injured.

A witness told police he saw a man firing a handgun, then running west between a couple of homes in Prairie Road.

Madison police said they need the community’s help in gathering information about the incident and who might have been involved. They ask anyone with information to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
