Mother to be sentenced in deaths of twins

East Troy woman pleaded guilty to felony neglect

EAST TROY, Wis. —

An East Troy woman faces sentencing Tuesday in the drowning deaths of her 11-month-old twins.

Twenty-seven-year-old Melody Butt has pleaded guilty to felony child neglect resulting in death and misdemeanor child neglect. She faces a maximum 25 years in prison and one year in jail.

A criminal complaint says Butt began filling the bathtub, put one of the twins in the water, then went to her bedroom and fell asleep Sept. 22. She awoke when her roommate arrived home and discovered the twins in the tub. The boy and girl twins were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
