Mother, daughter charged in overdose death
Complaint: Pair drove to Madison to buy heroin

WHITEHALL, Wis. — A mother and daughter have been charged with reckless homicide for allegedly providing the heroin that investigators say killed a Trempealeau man.
A criminal complaint states Michelle Johnson, 44, Lake Mills and Tasha Kempfer, 26, Tomah, drove to Madison in July of last year to buy heroin. It states Jeremiah Harris was given some heroin on the way back and later died of an overdose.
The La Crosse Tribune said Johnson and Kempfer are each charged with party to first-degree reckless homicide. A conviction carries a maximum 40 years in prison.
