More Groups File Lawsuit Against State Voter ID Law
A Washington, D.C.-based group is the latest to file a federal lawsuit against Wisconsin’s new voter identification law.
The Advancement Project filed the lawsuit Thursday in Milwaukee on behalf of several groups who say it discriminates against African Americans and Latinos.
The group’s attorney, Denise Lieberman, said the state’s new voter ID law discriminates against African-American and Latino voters who disproportionately lack the new forms of state-issued ID.
The lawsuit lists several community groups as plaintiffs, including the League of United Latin American Citizens and the Milwaukee Area Labor Council. The lawsuit names members of the Government Accountability Board as defendants.
It’s the fourth lawsuit against the state’s new voter ID law, which went into effect this month. All lawsuits are pending.
