More construction, utility work comes to Capitol Square starting Monday

Crane removal set to be completed by Sunday

MADISON, Wis. — Several construction projects will begin Monday near the Capitol Square, city officials said Thursday.

The projects will result in some street closures as crews work to install underground utilities, city traffic officials said.

Planned road closures include inbound West Washington Avenue at Fairchild Street and inbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Doty Street. Both closures begin Monday and are expected to run at least two weeks.

Right turns from North Carroll Street onto West Washington Avenue will remain open, but right turns from West Washington Avenue onto South Carroll Street will not be allowed, city officials said.

Also beginning Monday, right turns from East Main Street to King Street will be restricted, officials said. King Street will remain closed inbound at East Main Street.

A construction crane at the Anchor Bank site is scheduled to be removed on Sunday, meaning West Doty Street should be open by Sunday night, officials said.

The full Capitol Square project is expected to be completed at the end of July.
