Monroe County teen dies after jumping from moving van

The teenager who jumped from a moving vehicle on April 19 died from her injuries.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said 16-year-old Rebecca J. Wolf was a passenger in the back seat of a van when she opened the back door and jumped from the vehicle.

The incident happened at about 11:30 a.m. on April 19 on County Highway A about 2/10th of a mile east of Iowa Road in the Town of Wilton.

The Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the van, Katherine L. Wolf, of rural Tomah, stopped the vehicle and started first aid until first responders arrived.  Rebecca Wolf was taken by Med Flight to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse where she died from her injuries on April 29.

This is Monroe County’s second traffic fatality this year.

The incident is still under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
