Monona Grove girls basketball team sets sights on state championship

Whitewater advances to WIAA Div. 3 championship

The Monona Grove girls basketball team is undefeated this season and ranked No. 1 in the state in Division Two.

The team is hoping to end its season with a state championship. It’s something teammates have been talking about for a few years now.

When they were in the seventh grade, many of the current team members played a game at Madison LaFollette, and Monona Grove beat their rivals.

The team then went back to coach Eric Nelson’s house and made signs that said: “We’re going to win state in 2013.”

Now, the Silver Eagles could be on the verge of making those dreams come true.
“That’s kind of what you’re hoping for,” Nelson said. “They’re having that fun in the moment and they were having a blast up in the room, but they also had that vision of long-term.”

“This year, I think our focus is much better. We know to take things as they are and not look forward or back. If it’s meant to be, it will happen,” said Taylor Nelson, a junior on the team.
