Mom accused of killing baby with methadone pleads guilty

24-year-old takes plea deal

JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Beloit mother of a baby who died from a methadone overdose pleaded guilty in court Friday, according to records online.

Tallie J. Strommen, 24, was in Rock County court for a motion hearing at 8:30 a.m. where she pleaded guilty.

Strommen was charged with first-degree reckless homicide by administering drugs after she allegedly gave her 13-month-old daughter a portion of a methadone pill on Dec. 26 at a Janesville home. Beloit police had said K’myah Strommen died overnight, and Strommen found the baby in the morning.

The Janesville Gazette reported that Strommen pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of child neglect resulting in death. The prosecutor and defense agreed to a plea deal of three years in prison plus five years extended supervision, according to the Gazette.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled Jan. 20 where Judge Richard Werner can decide to accept or reject the sentencing recommendation.

Strommen’s mother, 52-year-old Tina M. Strommen, of Beloit, was also charged with first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the death and pleaded guilty on Aug. 21, according to court records. Tina Strommen is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. in Rock County court.
