MMSD: Superintendent ‘exceeds expectation’ in first year

District modeled evaluation on new statewide process for teachers, principals

MADISON, Wis. — The first evaluation of new Madison Metropolitan School District superintendent rates Jen Cheatham as exceeding expectations, according to a release.

The MMSD Board of Education modeled the evaluation process after the new statewide evaluations that teachers and principals will begin to participate in this school year, officials said.

“The evaluation of the superintendent is one of the board’s most important responsibilities. We are pleased with Jen’s leadership and how much has been accomplished this year,” Board President Arlene Silveira said in the release. “We look forward to continuing to work with Jen and our entire district team to continue to move in the right direction.”

Cheatham was evaluated on a set of key competencies that included board/superintendent relations, organizational climate and culture, instructional leadership, budget/operations management, talent performance and management and school/community relations, according to the release.

“I’d like to thank the board for their support and feedback throughout the year,” Cheatham said. “The board has set a clear vision, and I look forward to working with them to bring this vision to life in MMSD.”
