FALL RIVER—Miriam E. Robbins age 98 died on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at The Meadows Assisted Living Center in Fall River. She was born on November 3, 1913 in the town of Fountain Prairie to Leal and Matie (Seier) Beattie.

Miriam was a 1931 graduate of the Fall River High School and a 1932 graduate of Columbia County Normal Teacher’s College. She was married to Lawrence C. Robbins on December 28, 1935 in Columbus. Miriam was an active lifelong Fall River resident. She was employed as a teacher and a U.S. Postal Service substitute clerk and a substitute rural mail carrier for Fall River. Also, she and Lawrence were proprietors of grocery stores and beef farm owners. Miriam was an active member of the Fall River United Methodist Church and its UMW Sarah Circle where she served in many ways. She was a former member of the Fountain Prairie Neighborhood Club, the Fall River Women’s Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, Fall River Chapter 162 where she was past Matron. She was also a member of the Columbia County Retired Teachers Association. She and Lawrence traveled to various destinations in the U.S. and Canada. In her spare time, Miriam was an avid reader, gardener, rug weaver and sports booster.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Vernon) Rowoldt of Janesville; daughter-in-law, Judith Robbins of Fall River; five grandchildren, Randy Rowoldt of Minneapolis MN, Jill Rowoldt of Sarasota Fl, Beth (Dennis) Hensen of Cottage Grove, Patricia Phillips of Appleton, Kyle (Heather) Robbins of Fall River; five great grandchildren, Stanley, Emaley and Camille Phillips and Samuel and Joseph Robbins; several nieces and nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence in 1969; a son, Larry in 1996; a brother, Joseph Beattie; two nephews, Joseph and Leal Beattie.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the FALL RIVER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Fall River. Pastor Afi Dobbins will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Fountain Prairie Cemetery, town of Fountain Prairie. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice or the Fall River United Methodist Church.
