Milton police look for suspicious man visiting businesses

Police ID 2 suspects in Milton stabbing

Milton police are warning local business owners about a suspicious person who has been going into area businesses and asking for money, according to a release.

The man has been going into businesses for the past several weeks and asking to wait inside, officials said. He also asks to use the phone and dials six digits beginning with 921.

He tells employees that he is in Milton to buy a car and needs to wait out of the cold for hours, according to the release. He also says he doesn’t have enough money to get gas to travel to Madison and has to wait for his girlfriend to come and get him.

Police said the man uses excuses to ask for a place to wait out of the cold, and has done this at four businesses in the Merchant Row area and East Madison Avenue.

At three of the businesses, employees have given him money, according to the release. Two businesses found the interaction suspicious and contacted police after he left.

Milton police are asking that businesses call police if they have similar contacts with a suspicious man.

The man is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds and is in his 30s. He has brown hair and may drive a white car.

Police said the man hasn’t committed any crimes that they are aware of, but they hope to talk with him and potentially stop any potential crimes before they happen.
