Middleton sophomore wins state singles title

Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, Middleton sophomore Jake Van Emburgh won the division one state singles tennis championship. Emburgh defeated Brookfield East’s David Horneffer 7-5, 6-1.
For Emburgh, it was a shot a redemption, as Horneffer beat Emburgh last year in the state semifinals. It was also a good way to wrap up his career at Middleton.
Van Emburgh’s father, Greg, has been the UW men’s tennis coach since 2005. Greg stepped down as coach earlier this week.
The Van Emburgh’s will move to Florida to be closer to the IMG academy, where Greg will coach and Jake will play.
