Michael “Mike” Christopher Nagel

Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to Michael Christopher Nagel, 34 years young.
Mike passed unexpectedly on the afternoon of June 7th, 2017. Michael was born November 5th, 1982 to Kevin and Cheryl Nagel and raised in Waunakee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Waunakee High School in 2001 with a love of drawing, geometry, hockey, model airplanes, stereo installation and a great sense of loyalty to friends.
He spent his youth on Santa Fe Trail riding his bike standing on the seat and handlebars, playing roller hockey in the street, watching thunderstorms with dad, reading with mom and looking out for his younger brother and sister. Mike spent much of his childhood at many of the surrounding hockey arenas. Hockey was his childhood passion. He was a phenomenal player and showed no mercy when he was between the pipes. He received All State Honors in his senior year. Mike’s love for his family was second to none. He was their protector and go-to Mr. Fix-It. After graduating High School, Mike moved to Middleton. It was while living there he met his “Baby”, Laura Krueger, they were soon inseparable moving in with her to Sauk. They wed October 5, 2013. They spent much of their time loving on their “minis”, nieces and nephews. They purchased their duplex in Sauk City and lived in one half, with “Uncle B.” in the other half. Michael lived his days and nights installing, sanding, finishing and refinishing wood flooring in the Madison area. He was one of the “Godfathers” of the sanding mafia. Taking great pride in being able to say, even if only to the one in the mirror, “that turned out beautiful and I did it.” From a car-washing budget on Armor All, to stray dogs and cats, to helping friends, Mike lived to help others any time day or night. He loved his wife, Laura, to tears, his beloved rescue boxer, Mack, who always made him “One Proud Papa”, and adopted 18 year old Lucy and their cat Boots. We will miss his shining vehicles, the one in the foursome wearing pants, not knickers, driving his corvette around rumble strips to avoid car farts, talents with a grill, and keeping Laura’s flowers and plants looking gorgeous.
Michael is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Laura Nagel (Krueger); his parents, Kevin & Cheryl Nagel; mother & step father-in law, Mary & Leon “Butch” Kleinert; father in-law, Mark Krueger and step mother-in-law Deb; maternal grandparents, Gaylord and Elda Deets; grandmother-in-law, Henrietta Wipperfurth; brother, Jonathon & Irish (Rowan) Nagel; sister Jessica & Kristopher (Kenzie and Kalvin) Kirkpatrick; brother-in-law Marcus, (Hayden and Jasmine) Krueger; sister-in-law, Sara and Trent (Brody and Kaylee) Walch; several uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
A Private Celebration of Michaels Life will be held on Sat. June 17, 2017, at First United Church of Christ, 504 Washington Street, Sauk City, Wi. Friends are welcome to greet the family in the church basement from 11:30 am until 2:00 pm.
