Melanie Ann Russell

STOUGHTON, Wis. — Melanie Ann Russell, age 74, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2021.
She was born on September 24, 1946 and was adopted to Roy and Edna (Hoff) Schultz in Milwaukee, WI as an infant. Melanie married A Franklin Russell on October 25, 1969 in Lacrosse and were happily married until his passing in 2008.
Prior to her retirement, Melanie owned a property management company, and was a licensed real estate broker. She was also a cosmetologist in her younger years and was the youngest licensed cosmetology teacher in the state of Minnesota. For the bulk of her life, she worked as an advocate for others. Melanie was personally responsible for petitioning the Wisconsin state government to offer free breakfast and lunch for children in our schools. She also started and ran the very first food pantry in Dane county.
Melanie’s generosity continued through her entire life. She was always welcoming and helpful to others no matter how difficult things may have been for her personally, and she passed these qualities to those around her. Her kindness and pay it forward attitude were infectious.
Melanie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Russell; brother, Rodney Schultz; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and son, Brent Russell.
A special thank you to Antwon Edwards, Regina Broyles, Kim Ceesay, Rich Hyoshida, and Dhagny Kaupanger for all your love and support in caring for Melanie.
