Medical examiner identifies victim of deadly Penn Park shooting

MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of a deadly shooting at Penn Park.

Police first responded to Penn Park shortly before 4 p.m. on Labor Day for a report of shots fired. When they arrived they found a man had been shot several times. According to an incident report, the shooting appeared to be targeted. Police said the victim died Sunday, nearly two weeks after he was shot.

The medical examiner has identified him as 63-year-old David L. Neeley. According to an autopsy, Neeley died from his gunshot wounds. Additional testing is still underway.

Madison police had previously said Neeley was 64 years old.

Neeley’s death and the Penn Park shooting are still under investigation by the medical examiner’s office and the Madison Police Department. His death marks Madison’s eighth homicide this year.
