Medical examiner identifies teen killed in north side shooting

MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old who was shot and killed inside a car on Madison’s north side last week.

The victim of the shooting was identified as Laron D. Bynum of Milwaukee, the medical examiner’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy confirmed he was shot to death.

Bynum’s death remains under investigation by the Madison Police Department. The homicide was the fourth in Madison this year.

Police and emergency crews were called to the 1700 block of Vahlen Street at around 11:20 a.m. Friday after the shooting was reported. Bynum was found inside a stolen car at Vahlen Street and North Sherman Avenue before succumbing to his injuries.

Police say they believe the shooting was a targeted incident, but have not released information about a possible suspect.
