Medical examiner identifies 20-year-old killed in Labor Day shooting
MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner is identifying the person killed in a shooting earlier this week on Madison’s east side as 20-year-old Nicholas T. Cooke.
Police were called to the 4600 block of Martha Lane near Cottage Grove Road at about 6:44 p.m. Monday.
Cooke was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

The medical examiner’s autopsy confirmed Cooke died from the gunshot injuries.
The shooting is still under investigation by Madison police, and a suspect has not been identified. Officers believe the shooting was targeted, and not a random act.
