Medical examiner: Human remains found in rural Dane Co. belong to missing Windsor man

MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Monday that the human remains found by law enforcement in rural Dane County on Thursday belong to a missing Windsor man.
Bart Halderson, 50 was last seen at his Windsor home on July 1 with his wife, 53-year-old Krista Halderson. The couple was reported missing July 7 after family members weren’t able to confirm they made it to Langlade County for a weekend trip.
According to the medical examiner’s report, Bart Halderson’s cause of death was ruled as homicide. He suffered a gunshot wound, but the medical examiner didn’t specify if he died from the gunshot. Halderson’s remains were found in the Town of Cottage Grove.
As of Monday afternoon, Krista Halderson was still missing.
Thursday night, after telling News 3 he didn’t know if his parents made it to their destination over the holiday weekend, 23-year-old Chandler Halderson was taken into custody by Dane County law enforcement for providing false information related to the investigation into his parents’ disappearance.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is expected to share more details about the missing couple Monday afternoon.
