A Mauston man was sentenced to life in prison for shooting two women outside a bar last summer.

Cody Treul, 30, pleaded no contest to first-degree intentional homicide charges in March, and was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 30 years Monday.

Gail Howland, 29, died and Ebony Lasher, 23, had serious injuries.

Police said the incident happened just after midnight behind P.J.’s Bar and Grill in Mauston.

A criminal complaint said numerous witnesses told police they saw Treul shooting at Howland and Lasher in a smoking area outside the bar.

A witness told police Treul and Howland had been in a relationship, according to the criminal complaint. A relative of Howland said the two had been on a couple dates.
