Mary M. Curran

STOUGHTON-Mary M. Curran, age 83, of Stoughton, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1933, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Peter Simon Vogt and Anna Frances Vogt (Sauer). She married Charles J. Curran on Oct. 9, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lyons, Wis. Mary worked for WPS, as an insurance adjuster and also a union steward. Additionally, she worked as an upholstery instructor for MATC. She had lifetime memberships with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 59 and the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 328. Mary was a devoted community advocate and worker’s rights activist.

She was also a dedicated counselor for Badger Girls State. Mary was a remarkable woman with a wide variety of interests, including woodworking, gardening, and playing cards. Her many accomplishments and contributions include starting the Oregon EMS, organizing the first Welcome Wagon in Oregon, Wisc., and being one of the first police matrons for the City of Lake Geneva. Mary is survived by six children, Ellen Curran, Fred (Lin) Curran, Rita (Gary Christopher) Sperry, Cathy (Brian) Mogden, Chuck (Julie) Curran and Tony (Kate Hinner-Curran) Curran; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Anna Marie Foltz and Lawrence (Delores) Vogt, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her parents; Peter and Anna Vogt. Funeral services will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N Van Buren St, Stoughton, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday Aug. 11, 2017, with Father Randy Budnar presiding. Burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Lake Geneva on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.

Visitation will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711 or Camp American Legion, 8529 County Road D, Lake Tomahawk, WI 54539.
