Mary Belz

THE VILLAGES, FL/MADISON, WI –Mary Belz, age 92, reunited with her grandson on Thursday, July 14, 2022 with her daughter at her side. Mary was born on October 18, 1929 in Madison, WI to Angelo and Rosaria (Bastone) Caravello. She grew up near campus in the Italian Bush, surrounded by her extended family. Mary graduated from West High School in June of 1948. At her sister, Providence’s wedding, she was paired in the bridal party with Lawrence Belz, the groom’s brother. They fell in love and were married on June 10, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mama worked at State Medical Society for 33 years where she had various vocations. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of and spending time with her family, she was a family girl. Mama’s quick wit and spunkiness will be missed by all that knew her.

Mama is survived by her children, Michael Belz, Laurie Calamari, and Marjorie “Margo” (Jon) Polzine; grandchildren, Jennifer Belz, Ryan Belz, Travis Calamari, and Zachary Calamari. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband; grandson, George Polzine; siblings, Steve (Virginia) Caravello, Providence (Harvey) Belz, Florence (Tony) Zander, Victoria (Leo) Lashua, and Josephine Rodriguez.

A Celebration of Life for Mama and her grandson George will be held at Noon on Friday, July 22, 2022 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, with Fr. David Carrano presiding. A visitation will be held from 11:00AM until time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. We will be saying goodbye to Mama and Georgie at their final resting place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
