Mary was born in Waukesha, WI on April 18, 1927 to the late George and Mary Scholl. She married Arnold Schneider on October 15, 1949 whom she met while working as a cashier for Schultz Brothers Department Store in Waukesha.

They moved to their family home on East Mineral Street in Platteville in 1956. Arnold was manager of the local Schultz Brothers store on Main Street until his retirement in 1981. Mary was an active member of Saint Mary’s Parish and School in Platteville for 56 years, attending daily mass until her health made it difficult to do so. Her faithfulness to the Catholic Church was an important part of her life. Having worked for many years as a cook for the St. Mary’s School lunch program, she also volunteered in the ministry to the homebound, the quilter’s group, the prayer line, and was one of the original “cinnamon roll makers” for parish events.

She was a generous and compassionate soul who volunteered her service in the Platteville community for Meals on Wheels, The Thrift Shop, and the hospital gift shop. Honored by the Church Women United, she received “Member of the Year” award in 2009. Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, crafting, garage sales, and keeping up on the top 20 Country Music videos on TV. She especially cherished visiting with her extended family who kept in contact with her through phone calls, hand written letters, holiday cards, and visits.

The Lord shared an angel with us for 85 years; an angel who dedicated her life to us as our mother, our grandmother, head cook, and best friend. Her heart of gold has now stopped beating, and He has called her back to heaven to rest and watch over us.

Mary is survived by her six children, Mike (Janet) Schneider of Ann Arbor, MI; Barb (Richard) Freeman of Melbourne, FL; Renee (Paul) Guler of Platteville, WI; Paul (Candice) Schneider of Waunakee, WI; Mary (Dave) Hilsenhoff of Deerfield, WI; Joe Schneider of Dane, WI; seven grandchildren, Carrie Guler, Erin Guler, Andrew Schneider, Alexandra Schneider, Jacob Schneider, Emma Schneider, and Jordan Hilsenhoff; and one sister-in-law, Laura Schneider of Rice Lake, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in 1988; two sisters, Angie Milam and Marge Jones; and one brother, Louis Scholl.

Our family offers special thanks to all the medical staff and care staff of Medical Associates and Manor Care especially Dr. White and Dr. Loukinen.
