Marion “Rex” Putney

Marion “Rex” Putney, age 75, of Janesville, died on Monday, July 31, 2017, at St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital.

He was born in De Soto, IA on July 5, 1942, the son of Ray “Jack” and Lucy (Myers) Putney. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. Rex married Gloria G. Warren in Milton on Jan. 8, 2000. Rex valued his time spent with family. He was raised on a farm and continued farming, later working for Hammersley Stone, and then MAC Tools, where he was known as “The Candy Man”. His many interests included camping, tractor pulls, Netflix, John Wayne movies, genealogy, and reconnecting with relatives. He enjoyed his travels with Gloria to Alaska and multiple weekend excursions. He will be missed by friends and family.

Rex is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Putney; 4 children: Paul (Nicole Brown) Putney of Barneveld, Daniel (Shirley) Herfel of McFarland, Lori (Rod) Wing of Verona and Theresa (Jeff) Bottcher of Madison; 4 step children: Kevan (Julie) Klingberg of Osseo, WI, Karla (Ron) Giese of New Mexico, Kerrie Thompson of South Beloit and Kelly (Steve) Frisque of Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Max (Karen) Putney of South Dakota and Chuck (Susie) Putney of Verona; and many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 4 siblings: Richard, Bud and Jack Putney, and Joanne Ryman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the VFW HALL, 1015 Center Ave., Janesville. Interment will be in Graves Cemetery, Brooklyn, WI. Memorials may be made to Vets Roll.
