Marilyn LaVonne Holmes

Marilyn LaVonne Holmes

Marilyn L. Holmes age 77, passed away on May 12 after a difficult illness surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home. She was born in Red Wing, Minnesota. She and her 3 brothers, Donald (Rosie), Robert (Doris), Norman (Helen) and her 2 sisters, Doloris (Richard) and Doris were raised alone by their mother, Mrs. Elsie Yerke. Growing up in Cobb, Wisconsin, she graduated from Cobb-Linden High School in 1953. Upon graduation, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin to work with General Casualty Insurance.

In 1957, Marilyn married the love of her life, Glenn L. Holmes, who passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2001. Marilyn and Glenn, as loving parents, had 4 children: Brad (Michelle), Tim (Jayne), Scott (Michael) and Pam (Gary). Especially important to Marilyn was being a Grandma to Calvin, Zachary, Alisha and Amanda.

Marilyn was much loved by her friends and neighbors in Mauston, Wisconsin. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, antiquing, and the Packers and Badgers. For several years, she enjoyed going to the Cranberry Festival with dear friends and spending time at the cottage. A special thanks to neighbor and friend, Joyce Docken. Getting together for lunch with long-time friends from high school and chatting with neighbors, including Allison Ward, was important and always something Marilyn looked forward to.

Though both our mom and dad together are in Heaven and in our hearts, and were loved so much, we will truly miss them.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her siblings Donald, Robert and Doloris and her mother, Mrs. Elsie Yerke.

Very special, loving thanks to Marilyn’s sister, Doris for her love and support during a difficult time. The family of Marilyn would also like to thank friends, relatives and Hospice for helping her to be comfortable at home.

There will be a private memorial service for the family. In lieu of flowers, please give to Bethany Lutheran Church, W5119 County Rd G, Mauston, 53948, Wisconsin.
