Marie M. Knutson

Marie M. Knutson, 97, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Friday, September 2, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 8, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Deacon Bill Bussan and Father John Blewett will concelebrate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Marie was born October 4, 1924, in Bloomington, Wisconsin, daughter of William and Mary (Schneider) Sudmeier. She was united in marriage to Harold Knutson on November 17, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1988. Marie worked at Glenview Commons, UW-Platteville, Southwest Health Center and later in life at the Platteville Thrift Store. Marie though loved taking care of her family, which was her main occupation. She was a wonderful cook. Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville.

Marie is survived by three children, Shelba (Gary) Blackman, Jackie (Charlie) Chamberlain, and Jane (Gene) Haney; daughter-in-law, Kim Knutson, Steve’s partner, Brian Monfre; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Richard “Chip” on October 28, 2011, and Steve on November 1, 2021; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Horsfal, Lucille Sudmeier, Edwin Sudmeier, Evelyn Sudmeier, LaVerne Sudmeier William Sudmeier, Leroy Sudmeier, Lorraine Lee, Rosella Schmitz and Lillian Schmitz.
