Marian Elizabeth Wills Voigts

Marian Elizabeth (Wills) Voigts, 90, of Platteville, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Marian was born June 7, 1932 in Platteville, Wisconsin, daughter of William Hobart and Florence (Steinhoff) Wills. She was raised on a farm outside Belmont, Wisconsin. She graduated salutatorian from Belmont High School. She was married to Willard Voigts on June 20, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2012. After their marriage they moved to the Voigts’ family farm and farmed for 38 years. During that time they raised four children.

Marian was a 4-h sewing leader and beautiful seamstress, making and altering numerous wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses. Health issues caused her to cut back in her farm duties and she became the secretary of Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. At the age of 55 she started a career at Wisconsin Power & Light. She loved her 15 years spent at WPL, retiring at the age of 70.

Her and Willard were both avid bowlers, card players, Milwaukee Braves & Brewers fans, and spectators to their grandchildren’s many sporting events. They also enjoyed many travels.

Marian is survived by her four children, Mary Alice (Tom) Moody, Middleton, WI; Don (Cindy) Voigts, Janesville, WI; Cathy (Greg) Eckels, Mineral Point, WI; and Joe Voigts, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Tamara (Corey) Sutor, Melissa (Eric) Simon, Tracy Lewiston, Tina (Pat) Goodger, Jamie (Jeremy) Esch, Jackie (Andy) Spoor, and Lance (Amy) Eckels; 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Vernelle Klein, and sister-in-law, Frieda Wills. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Royal, brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold & Ruth Voigts, Mabel Chadwick, Orville & Catherine Voigts, Florence & Art Reese, Viola & Floyd Grunewald and Lorita Klein.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 10, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, Belmont. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.
