Margaret E. Speth

Margaret E. Speth

Margaret E. Speth, age 92 of Highland, passed away on Sunday July 9, 2017 at Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehab in Dodgeville with her loving family by her side shortly after her daughter Chris read the 23rd Psalm.

Margaret was born on January 11, 1925 in a farmhouse in Mineral Point Township to Henry and Bertha (Niehaus) Schade. Margaret attended a one room school up to 8th grade. She then rode her horse, Billy Boy, to the Highland High School where she graduated in 1945 with a scholarship to Nursing School. Instead of college, she stayed home to care for her uncle who had a stroke. She was engaged to Lawrence Speth of Highland for 7 years before their marriage on July 10, 1957. The couple farmed in Highland township until Lawrence’s death on March 17, 1976. Margaret decided to keep farming with the help of her four devoted brothers, Nathen, Lloyd, Herman and Eldon Schade and neighbors, Archie and David Novak and Bill Lindscheid. Margaret and Lawrence took great pride in their Registered Black Angus Cattle. She also loved to garden, can and raise her geese. Her greatest passion in life was all about family. She always stressed love no matter how anything went. And the saying in the Speth house was “Never go to bed mad”. She was a strong-headed person that feared nothing or nobody. Big family dinner on the holidays were a must. Then when grandchildren and great grandchildren came along they were her greatest joy and none of them could do no wrong. One thing about Margaret was that she always put others before herself. Farm life was the only life for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six brothers, Kenneth, Ernest, Nathen, Lloyd, Herman and Eldon Schade; two sisters, Bernice Redwing and Elsie Womack; three brothers-in-law, Albert McVay Sr., Jack Womack and Alex Redwing; a sister-in-law, Shirley Schade and a son-in-law, Sam Kever.

Margaret is survived by four children, Christine Speth of Highland; Jennifer (Al) Molzof of Preston; Lynette Kever (special friend, Rodney Beach) of Muscoda and Mark Speth of Highland; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kevin Knight and his children, Kasen;, Deklynn, Lilly and Lane; Kyle (Jade) Knight and their sons, Tayten, Ryker and Huntley; Rick (Majesta) Molzof and children, Madelyn, Haydan, Breckan and Jaxon and Elizabeth (Mariah) Mercil and their daughter, Elorah; a brother, Robert Schade of Darlington as well as many friends.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cobb with graveside services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Cemetery. A lunch will then be held at Peace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, Bloomfield Healthcare or Upland Hills Hospice.

To the one who bears the sweetest name and adds the luster to the same. There is no other who will take the place of our dear Mother. Margaret’s children will miss her companionship, conversations, amazing memory and being their best friend.
