Margaret A. Vitense

MADISON- Margaret A. Vitense, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1925, in Stoughton, the daughter of Obert and Myrtle (Femrite) Nordness. She was united in marriage to Robert Vitense on May 15, 1946, Margaret and her family were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked as a waitress for Jack Burke’s Supper Club, now known as Mariners Inn, and also worked at Maple Bluff Country Club, a job she truly enjoyed. Margaret also worked for Wisconsin Bell, now known as AT&T. She was a member of the AT&T Pioneers, Elks Lodge, and volunteered with the American Red Cross for over 30 years. Margaret enjoyed bowling which she continued into her 80’s. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking and cleaning. She became the family historian and found value in visiting her relatives’ graves. Margaret is survived by her children, Bob (Sandy) Vitense, Vicki (Richard) Olson, Michael (Karla) Vitense and Jeffrey (Mary) Vitense; sister, Phyllis Galbrecht; 15 grandchildren, Robert (Holly) Vitense, Kurt (Teesa) Vitense, Kristi (Christopher Mehling) Bossell-Mehling, Eric (Stacy) Olson, Shawn Olson, Brian (Julie) Vitense, Jennifer (Kyle) Jacobs, Timothy Vitense, Kyle (Heidi) Vitense, Maren Lichtie, Anna Lichtie, Grant (Fiance’ Sara) Vitense, Rachel (Brian) Fisch, Michael Bingham and Brianna (Tim Duessler) Bingham; and 23 great-grandchildren, Zane, Isabel, Cal, Eve, Brady, Ryan, Tylor, Cassidy, Abbi, Ashley, Camaron, Paeton, Landon, Preston, Serena, Ethan, Hendrix, Violet, Shane, Audrey, Kailee, Kinzley and Payten. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter, Nancy Bingham; grandson, Tyler Bingham; three sisters, Alyce Gunderson, Thelma Judd-Hulvey and Elayne Withers-Harness; and brother, Sammy Nordness. Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., at 11 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
